About the Event
On September 22nd from 1:30-2:30 Samantha Benz from the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention will be hosting a webinar for the NEPA ASSP. I got permission to open this to other groups outside of the ASSP.
The week of September 6th is National Suicide Prevention week. With our children returning to school and the pandemic changing how many of us live, we thought this made for a timely discussion.

"Talk Saves Lives"
Talk Saves Lives is AFSP’s community based education program that provides participants with a clear understanding of this leading cause of death, including the most up-to-date research on suicide prevention, and what they can do in their communities to save lives.
Participants will learn common risk factors and warning signs associated with suicide, and how to keep themselves and others safe.
Established in 1987, the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) is a voluntary health organization that gives those affected by suicide a nationwide community empowered by research, education and advocacy to take action against this leading cause of death.
AFSP is dedicated to saving lives and bringing hope to those affected by suicide. AFSP creates a culture that’s smart about mental health by engaging in the following core strategies:
- Funding scientific research
- Educating the public about mental health and suicide prevention
- Advocating for public policies in mental health and suicide prevention
- Supporting survivors of suicide loss and those affected by suicide in our mission
